We spent last night at the Southern Cross Palace Hotel-the staff weren't overly helpful- Norms and Dave couldn't park their van in the car park and we weren't allowed to do any washing! Had a comfortable night though. Left at the usual time of just before 7am-Mum did a bit more of the driving today, while Bevo took a well earned snooze and Annabelle had to do some school marking! Conditions were excellent again- finished the 188k ride by 12:30pm. At some points I was able to reach speeds of 60k/h on the flat. On the way in I caught up with 2 cyclists- a father son team who are riding from Perth to the Gold Coast, the son is hoping to be the youngest person to ever do this. We arrived in Coolgardie to discover it was "Coolgardie Day"- it can best be described as a country show, complete with fair ground rides and show bags! We were lucky to get accommodation a few days ago as it had been fully booked before. Denise and Bevo secured another room in preference to the van. The motel 'stand-in' manager was lovely and very helpful-she let us use the motel laundry to wash some of my smelly cycling gear! I also popped into the pool for a recovery 'ice bath'- legs are a little sore but Bevo gave me a massage last night which helped. Tonight it's dinner at the pub then early to bed. Unfortunately Bevo, Norms and Dave are leaving us tommorow- Bevo heads back home via Esperance (for a couple of days of relaxation) and Norms and Dave leave us to head back up north. It's been fantastic having them here and they will be missed! It will just be the three of us until Boxy, Ness and Dave join us in Adelaide. Off to Norseman tommorow-hopefully the conditions willl continue to be kind! Last changed: Sep 14 2008 at 6:55 PM Back |
