Not really a rest day because of the number of things on our plate but no riding - thank goodness because my legs were screaming. After a nice slow breakfast, we drove to the city and picked up Ness and Dave who will be riding with us to Melbourne. Macquarie Bank was the venue for a brunch and speeches. David Dall (the chair of HD SA) had organised about 40 people to come along and hear a few words about HD and the ride. I was pretty happy with the way the Q and A session went and David thinks that they raised $1500. Macquarie matched that amount, which is fantastic. Next, it was off to 5AA for an interview on the radio. Amanda was great and she made me feel really comfortable. I think I could get used to this. Following the interview I went for a much needed massage. Julie put me through excruciating pain; it made the ride seem painless. I was writhing in discomfort but she assured me it was good pain. During this time I had a message on my phone from Paul, who had taken my bike in for a tune up and service. Unbelievable news - My bike had two cracks in it and the bike mechanic suggested that I should probably not ride my bike for the rest of the trip. It might last the distance but he could not guarantee it. What a dilemma - ride the bike that I got from Dad's life insurance, which is faster but might cause me to crash, or choose the old one, which is slower but safer. After much consternation I reluctantly chose the latter. With so many hills tomorrow, I would not have felt comfortable riding a suspect bike. Thanks to Paul, Ness and Dave who helped me swap over the necessary components to make my old bike as much like the newer one as possible. Last changed: Oct 02 2008 at 8:51 PM Back |
