DAY 18

Another tough beginning with the wind doing me no favours. Man, my legs are sore today, specifically my quads. Fortunately, my direction changed so the wind was not so bad for the last 90km. So different to Melbourne. I was only 20 km from town and we were still passing farms. We got into town in pretty good time and headed to the airport to pick up Boxy. In the meantime, the phone was ringing hot so we had to get back to the city to do an interview for Channel 10. It went well and the footage on TV was great - they did a fantastic job in promoting the ride and talking up the sponsors. After the interview we drove to Paul and Angela's place (they are putting us up for a couple of nights - Paul is my brother-in-law's brother). This is where Annabelle and I said goodbye to Mum. She was heading home to Melbourne after two and a bit weeks in the van. She deserves a lot of thanks for the love and support she has shown me during this whole journey. Mum won't be away for long and will join us in Nhill with Kris and Bren and the grandkids. After a wade at Glenelg beach we ate a feast thanks to Angela's fabulous cooking skills. Because of the rest day we went to bed at 10.30 - a very late one for us.
